Mummifying Apple People in Guided Reading!

YEAR 5 

This week in Year 5, we have been reading and analysing three texts about Egyptian beliefs and mummification.  The focus this week was to gather evidence from each text to justify their views and opinions within a class debate!
Our debate title was, ‘mummification was a respectful and decent way of laying the dead to rest.’'
Here is a snapshot of our day in 'court'.

To hook the children into the topic we started the week by mummifying little people that we constructed from an apple. This gave the children the opportunity to psychically see how the Natron was used to dry out the bodies  in Egyptian times. 

The finished product... a very crispy mummy, exciting!
