Key Stage 2
Year 3

Welcome to Year Three

Meet the Team:
3DW - Miss Williams, Mrs Allen and Miss Cooper
3HW - Mrs Walker, Mrs Lloyd and Miss Cooper

It’s a very exciting time when we join Year 3 – our first class in Key Stage Two!

Throughout Year 3, we will be going on some fantastic learning journeys with our immersive curriculum that is sure to get the children (and teachers) excited!

Autumn Term
In Autumn 1, we kick off our learning by travelling back to the Stone Age in our history lessons to study what Stone Age people did for us and how they lived. We learn about settlement types and location and how land use has changed over time in geography. In Science, we explore light and dark and have lots of fun questioning how we see things and how shadows are formed! We then move onto forces and magnets in Autumn 2.
Our highlight of the Autumn term is visiting Clifton Park Museum  for our stone age day where we learn about the stone age in the local area and get to see some actual artefacts!

Spring Term

In Spring, we continue looking at changes in British history by moving onto studying the Bronze Age and then the Iron Age. We look at how their inventions and 'technology' changes over time. Our science focus this term is animals including humans. We learn about skeletons and muscles as well as nutrition.

In Spring 2, we begin our new topic: Boom! A fascinating exploration of the world’s most violent volcanoes! We even have a VR experience to get up close to volcanoes around the world!

Summer Term

In the Summer term, we travel back to the Ancient Mayan period to compare and contrast to ancient Britain. In Science we investigate plants and what they need to live and in DT we look at seasonal foods and even have a go at creating some tasty vegetables in season. We build on this in our trip to Stockbridge Technology Centre to see how our food is grown and to make pizzas and buns.
