Key Stage 2
Year 3

Welcome to Year Three

This year working in Year 3 we have Miss Williams, Mrs Whittaker, Miss Horne, Miss Thomas, Miss Lockwood, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lloyd.

It’s a very exciting time when we join Year 3 – our first class in Key Stage Two!

Throughout Year 3, we will be going on some fantastic learning journeys with our immersive curriculum that is sure to get the children (and teachers) excited!

In the Autumn Term, we begin by journeying back to the Stone Age to look at the very first people who helped us in our topic – Fire Starters! We explore all the amazing things the people in the Stone Age did from becoming Hunter-Gatherers to making and sampling our very own Stone Age recipes! Yum! Our class read for Autumn is the classic 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King.

The Spring Term will soon come around! In Spring 1 our whole school topic: Ever Changing Technology begins and in Year 3 we look at Choco Block. We look at how chocolate was used by the Maya and how it has transformed throughout the years – delicious! We especially enjoy reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.

In Spring 2, our whole school topic becomes Ever Changing World and we begin our new topic: Boom! A fascinating explore of the world’s most violent volcanoes! We even have a go at making our own erupting volcano too!
In the Summer Term our final whole school topic becomes High View Cares and in Year 3 we begin Save Our Bees! A very important topic where we look at why bees are so important to us, why they are endangered and what we can do to protect them. Watch out - we become Bee Detectives!

In Year 3 we love to read! We have carefully selected our favourite stories, poems and information texts we want to appear on our book shelf; each class have even picked their favourite five reading books that they enjoy sharing with each other. We read every day and love getting into a great story! Throughout the year we look at different authors too including J.K. Rowling, Clive King, Roald Dahl and many more!

Our learning doesn’t just happen inside the classroom! We go on many exciting visits and have visitors in to support our learning and make it real across the year! These include a trip to Creswell Crags; a visit from the fire service to tell us all about the importance of fire safety; a visit to York Chocolate Story; Stockbridge Technology Centre and termly visits to the library!

Can you believe we manage to fit all of that into just one year? We love being busy and are always eager to learn new and interesting things in year 3 – especially when we are working together and helping each other.
We hope you love year 3 as much as we do!
