Are you thinking about applying to High View Primary Learning Centre?
First of all, welcome to High View Primary Learning Centre's website and thank you very much for considering sending your child to us!
We hope you have managed to find all of the information you need, but if not, do not hesitate to contact us on 01226 273220 We will always be happy to help!
First of all, please take a good look through our website, to get a feel of what our school is all about - teaching, learning, safety and fun! If you haven't visited our school, then please feel free! Simply call school or e-mail us, whichever is easiest and we will accommodate you and your children to look around our school at a time to suit you. We believe that this is really important as you will get a feel as to how our school runs and whether or not you think our school is right for your children!
When making any decision or when you come to visit, please make sure you have read our Ofsted report and have looked at our school vision and aims, to see if it fits in with your own views on school life.
We have a 'Morning Move It Club' ran by Mr Crossley, our PE Co-ordinator from 8.30 a.m. to 8.45 a.m. This is based in our Hall (enter through the main Office entrance) or in warmer weather can also be outside.
We also have Provision in school, Cheeky Monkey's Morning and After School Club. (Please see the separate section on our website to give you a wider picture about them). This a paid provision and can be arranged directly with them.
If you would like your child to attend High View Nursery (part time education) and you are a resident in Barnsley, you will get a letter through the post from Admissions, asking you to make your choice and return it to themselves. Admissions then prepare a list of children who we admit to Nursery on an age basis. As soon as we are notified that your child has a place in our Nursery, then Miss G Grayhurst (Nursery Teacher) will contact you and invite you to a new starters' meeting. At this meeting you will gain all the information you need, have chance to look at the setting and meet key staff and ask as many questions as you want and need! You will also be given the chance to come in to Nursery for a visit session with your child.
If you would like your child to attend High View from Reception onwards (full time education), then you will need to apply via Admissions / online via Barnsley LA's procedures. Once again, after you have applied, Admissions prepare a list of children who we admit to full time school (Reception - Year 6). Mrs Jane Banks (EYFS Lead and Reception Teacher) will write out to you and invite you to a news starters' meeting and give you all the information you need. Once again, you will have chance to ask as many questions as you want, look at our Reception classrooms and meet staff. Your child will also have the opportunity to visit school and begin to build relationships with staff and children prior to the summer holidays before they start, as part of a transition package! This normally entails spending a morning in class with their new friends and teachers, followed by lunch with parents and then another full day in school, when they try lunch time independently! As part of this process, our Reception teachers will aim to visit your child's current setting to discuss any specific needs or requirements and find out a little more academic information, ready for when we look at class makeup for their September start.
We understand that the prospect of sending your most precious possession to school for the first time is rather daunting; many of our staff members have been in your shoes! However, we do ask parents to work with us to the benefit of their children and we always actively encourage parents to talk to us if they have any questions or problems, whatever they might be and we will aim to sort these out as quickly as possible. If you have any health /medical / safeguarding / learning issues or concerns regarding your child which you want to discuss prior to them starting at High View, then please contact us and we will discuss these matters with you and put a plan in place.
We want to be the best school possible, so always welcome parental and child feedback, in respect of school life.
