Religious Education
Here at High View Primary Learning Centre we develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other major faiths. Through this curriculum we encourage the children to appreciate and respect the world around them, understand the needs and beliefs of others and be aware, tolerant and respectful towards others.
Christianity is the main part of the R.E. curriculum but we ensure the children are aware of other major religions and cultures. We live in a multi-faith world and it is important that children are aware of other religions and cultures and become tolerant of others beliefs and their different ways of life. Each year group focuses on Christianity, and another faith.
These include Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and the Way of the Buddah.
Children take part in regular weekly collective worship which is of a Christian nature. We have a strong link with the local churches who visit school regularly for special ‘open book’ assemblies based on stories from the Bible. Throughout the year children perform Christian productions including The Nativity and The story of Easter. Key stage 2 visit a local church for the Christmas Carol Service. Year 2 visit both St Mary’s Church and Wombwell Methodist Church.
Our school also has strong links with Friends of Wombwell Cemetery.
