Our RE Curriculum Leader is - Mrs L Bailey Here at High View Primary Learning Centre we develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the six main religions in the UK: Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Through this curriculum we encourage the children to appreciate and respect the world around them, understand the needs and beliefs of others and be aware, tolerant and respectful towards others.
We live in a multi-faith world and it is important that children have an understanding of different religions and cultures in order to become tolerant of each other’s beliefs and different ways of life. Children in EYFS, children do not focus on a specific religion but spend time understanding the world around them and what similarities and differences they can see. From Year 1, every child is introduced to each of the six main religions and their knowledge and understanding is deepened and built upon through their primary school journey.
As a school, we celebrate festivals from each religion throughout the year including Christmas, Eid-ul Fitr, Diwali, Guru Nanak’s Gurpurab, Hannukah, Wesak. Each year group will visit a place of worship or be visited by a member of faith to support their understanding of the different religions.
Children take part in regular weekly collective worship which is of a Christian nature. We have a strong link with the local churches who visit school regularly for special ‘open the book’ assemblies based on stories from the Bible. Key stage 2 visit a local church for the Christmas Carol Service. Year 2 visit both St Mary’s Church and Wombwell Methodist Church. Our school also has strong links with Friends of Wombwell Cemetery.
