Key Stage 1
Year 2.

Welcome to Year 2

This year working in Year 2 we have:
Mrs Ottewell, Miss Levitt, Mrs Branigan, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Randerson and Mrs Hudson.

Throughout Year 2 we will go on some amazing adventures, with our immersive curriculum that immerses
the children fantastically…
In the Autumn term, we will begin our new topic - Hopes & Dreams where we will talk to the children about their aspirations, dreams and hopes for the future.  This will give us opportunity to explore back in time about "inspirational people" such as Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie and Mary Seacole.  We will look at how people help us all around us and learn lots of exciting things.
Autumn 2 will see us look at Crime & Punishment with our topic - "Peacekeepers and Rule Breakers".  We will visit the cemetery for Remembrance,   take part in Anti-Bullying week and learn about Edith Cavell, Guy Fawkes and the rules he broke before investigating those who broke rules for a good reason.
Spring  Term will bring our new topics of   "A Toy Story" - which really is as exciting as it sounds!  The children will learn about how technology has changed around us and look at toys in depth.  Who doesn't love toys? The
children will then move onto being immersed into opportunities to learn lots  about the  the environment, the world around us, science and much , much more in our topic "Bugs on Tour"
Summer term will bring one of our favourite topics "Fire, Fire" where we will learn all about the event that changed London and visit the wonderful Transport Museum to step back in time to visit an important character from the fire.  Before, we head into our final half term of the year - "High View Cares" which sees us head off an exciting trip to the seaside to allow us to delve deep into our geography curriculum to compare and contrast the human and physical features from one town to another.
Super science investigations will teach us more about materials and their properties and help us learn all about our bodies and how they work! This will be supported by Mr Crossley, who will help your children develop their skills and abilities in gymnastics, dance and athletics.
In year 2, we LOVE reading! Every topic we will cover some familiar and popular books to immerse our learning even more.  We will read lots of fun stories and poems every day and then try to write in a similar way.   Traditional stories will allow us to become authors by changing and adapting the original story.

Our learning in the classroom will be made real by lots of incredible trips to Eureka, Cleethorpes, Wombwell Churches and many more.  We also hope to have many special visitors into school throughout the year.

One of the most important things we learn in Year 2 is how to work well together and help one another so that we have a fun and happy classroom!

We hope you love it as much as we do!
