second In Year one, this year we have Mrs Clow, Mrs Simpkins, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Myers, Mrs Cooper, Miss Stringer, Mrs Wilson-Roberts, Miss Naylor, Miss Butterworth and Miss Pearce
In year 1, we believe that each and every one of us are extraordinary and special in our own way. We value each other and aim to nurture your child’s imagination and enthusiasm through the exciting and meaningful curriculum that we will offer. In the Autumn term we will jump into our new school year with our topic 'Wonderful Weather' and a visit to Wombwell woods. We will take a closer look at our local environment and where we live, while observing the seasons of the year. After all, the woodland is a great place to observe the seasonal changes! We well continue to watch the everchanging weather whilst progressing with our learning about significant events through the year and important people from the past in our second topic "Once Upon a Night". Where we will learn about Guy Fawkes and look at the Geography of the UK. We will continue our learning journey in to the fictional world of the Three little pigs. Why was the wolf so nasty? Why did the pigs homes easily collapse? What can we do to sort these problems out? We will uncover the answers with ‘Sticks and Stones and Funny Homes’. As we say goodbye to 2021 and open the mysterious door to 2022, we take our learning on a journey into the past to find out about how life was a long time ago for our families – ‘Memory Box, Whatever Next?’ before whizzing into the future to compare the past with what life might be like in the future. What do you think life would be like on another planet? Only Neil Armstrong would know… or maybe the aliens of course! We will dig deep into the world of ‘Ever changing Technology’ to help us investigate. As Spring ends and Summer approaches, we will steer our learning towards our ‘Ever changing world’, and the wonders our planet has to offer. We will look at the 'Wonders of Here and There' taking a visit to the Old Moor Wetlands Centre to learn all about the many plants that help to make our world a beautiful place to be. To end our Summer term we will focus our curiosity on the ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ on our planet and what makes these extraordinary, just like us!
We will use some exciting hooks into our topics throughout the year, through books and adventures, visitors and artifacts. If you have something to share with us, that would bring meaning to our learning, feel free to let us know. This is OUR curriculum in Year 1, and we welcome everyone’s involvement to guide our learning in meaningful and exciting ways. Ready…Set… Go Year 1.
