In Year One this year we have Mrs Bailey, Mrs Wall, Mrs Simpson, Mrs Johnson, Miss Naylor, Mrs Stanley and Mrs Hibberd. In year 1, we believe that each and every one of us are extraordinary and special in our own way, which we learn in our One Life PSHE lessons. Throughout the year we develop channel our inner cheerleaders and develop our toolkits to help us to be our best self. We value each other and aim to nurture your child’s imagination and enthusiasm through the exciting and meaningful curriculum that we will offer. In the Autumn term we will jump into our new school year with our topic 'Wonderful Weather' and a visit to Wombwell Cemetery. We will take a closer look at our local environment and observing the signs of Autumn. We use maps to locate the United Kingdom and learn the 4 countries. We learn the initial skills for Computing such as logging in and what technology is. In History we learn about the past and present with a focus on timelines. In Spring term we begin to look at the properties of materials in Science and producing our own maps in Geography. We enjoy reading the Three Little Pigs and using this understanding of the story to create our own moving story book in Design and Technology. As our musical skills develop we learn how to improvise using the glockenspiel in our music lessons. We extend our learning on special books from Autumn term by looking at the special places of worship in Christianity and Islam. In Summer term we will look at our topic 'Grow Grow Grow' taking a visit to the Old Moor Wetlands Centre to learn all about the many plants and mini beasts that help to make our world a beautiful place to be. To end our Summer term we will focus our curiosity on the ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ and learn about the classification groups for animals. We even create our own spider sculpture in art.
We will use some exciting books linked to our topics and writing throughout the year. We also get to experience some adventures, visitors and artifacts along the way. If you have something to share with us, that would bring meaning to our learning, feel free to let us know. This is OUR curriculum in Year 1, and we welcome everyone’s involvement to guide our learning in meaningful and exciting ways. Ready…Set… Go Year 1
