Spring has sprung at High View and out we went to investigate the school grounds for signs that spring is just around the corner. The children found daffodils and snowdrops and we even had a look at our pond for tadpoles. The children spotted buds on the trees and we all had fun weaving in and out of the bushes on the school field.
This week the cold winter weather finally arrived and the children have had fun investigating the changes outside in our playground. They were all very excited to see that Jack Frost had been during the night and left a sprinkling of ice and frost . The children enjoyed picking up the ice to feel it in their hands and watch it melt away. This week the children made some wonderful winter trees to display around our classroom.
This week we started our new topic all about Toys. We had great fun in our creative workshop rolling balls in paint then rolling then around a tray to see what sort of pattern we could make.
I asked the children to bring in their favourite toy to talk to their class friends about why they liked it and how they play with it. We loved looking at their toys and listening to their stories.
In Nursery we wanted to make the children aware of Remembrance Day, so we made a poppy wreath by painting bun cases and drawing around our hands. Outside we built our own cenotaph and put our coats on to go and observe a minutes silence whilst looking at pictures of soldiers .
The children where so excited to tell us about their Bonfire night experiences and this developed into a talk about keeping safe . We discussed how to contact the emergency services by dialing 999 and the children were keen to act this out. We soon developed a High View firefighting team.
We have had such fun this week making bread. We read the story of The Little Red and we were inspired to work together to make some bread. We hope you enjoyed eating it at home.
It is harvest time! The children were so excited to harvest their own vegetables to sell in our farm shop.
At High View Nursery we want to build upon the learning that has taken place in the home. We aim to provide children with a rich variety of challenging play activities and other experiences in a stimulating environment.
