We had a fantastic day with Mrs Brannigan when we visited the woods. Here are some of our photos to show you what we did. The children were exhausted at the end of the day!
Yesterday we were so lucky to have Matt Goodfellow, a Poet, visit our School. First we all took part in a KS1 assembly, where we recited poems together with actions with Matt. It was so much fun. The children loved it. It was great to see their excitement and enthusiasm shining through. Matt then came to work within Year 2 for a session with each class. This gave the children the opportunities to realise they could be a poet too. Matt talked about how patterns on a page make poetry and about different rules when writing poetry before going on to helping the children to each write their own poems. The children's poems were entitled "Things I like". Looking around the classroom, the children were all buzzing to write their poems and impress us all. Some of their ideas were amazing. Some of them even performed them to Matt. We had a fab morning. Matts poetry book is available on Amazon and is highly recommended. On Tuesday we had a fabulous day, the sun was shining (some of the time at least!) and we were outdoors most of the day. Here are a few of our photos.
This week has been National Science Week, the theme was changes. We had a whole day in Year 2 where the children worked in groups and carried out different Science experiments to experiences changes in different materials. We made rockets by melting chocolate, using icing sugar and strawberry laces. We designed the rockets ourselves. Take a look at some in our pictures! It was great to see how creative we can all be. The children then saw that the chocolate had set into a solid. Other experiments included melting different items and estimating the time to melt over heat, gloop, making playdough, researching materials and much more. Here are some pictures of our fantastic day. A fantastic time was had by all on World Book Day. We came dressed as favourite characters and took part in the Key Stage Two Parade. During the morning, we had a tricky maths investigation, trying to discover which is the most commonly used letter and if it differed depeding on the text. It cames as no surprise to discover e, s and t were common in every text. We also played fairy tale consequences which had hilarious results. The most enjoyable part of the day was reading with the younger children, it is lovely to see them enjoying a book together. |
