On Wednesday our children took part in a special sports session organised by Mr Calvert and Team Activ. The children tested their abilities in a wide range of activities. The activities were aimed at improving their agility, balance and co-ordination. Some of their favourites were the high stepper, speed bounce and target roll. The festival lasted for most of the morning, the levels of concentration and involvement were amazing for such young children. Please look through our photos and you'll see what fun we had! You will also notice that we had some amazing Year 5 helpers who demonstrated endless patience and encouraged our children throughout the morning.
Last Friday children from Year 2 and Year 5 walked down to Wombwell cemetery to take part in a Remembrance Service. While they were there, they explored the cemetery and learned to tell the difference between a war memorial and a war grave. Everyone found it extremely interesting and although sometimes children were sad to see men had passed away so young, it also enabled them to begin to understand the sacrifice they made. Everyone who took part was credit to the school and showed outstanding behaviour throughout the visit. The year 5 children were fantastic role models for the year 2s and helped keep them safe and explained different things during the walk around the cemetery. It was also fantastic to see so many parents and other adults from around Wombwell who gave their time to take part in the service with our pupils. Children from each class made their own poppy wreath to lay as a sign of respect and to remember those who had passed away. Can you remember what the colours of the poppy stand for? We had lots of fun making our poppy wreath and then we went outside to build a cenotaph. We also tried really hard to stay quiet for our minute's silence to remember the soldiers. On Wednesday the FS2 children were so excited to be going on a coach and out of school. We completed the 'farm to fork' trail and took part in many activities. The children kneaded and shaped their own dough which was then baked in the store bakery. It was so delicious! We explored the fruit and vegetable sections and matched the colours to our chart. We found out the names of some unusual fruit that we hadn't seen before. The lady at the fish counter gave us lots of information about fresh fish. We even looked in the warehouse, freezer and staff room. That was very interesting! The time time flew by so quickly as we were so busy. Here are some of our photos.
