We had a special visitor in FS2 today who talked to us about birds. We discovered lots of facts about record breaking birds.

Did you know these facts?

The smallest bird in the world is the hummingbird.
The bird with the longest wingspan is the albatross.
The largest bird in the world is the ostrich.

Wren's nest together and this is monitored by bird watching groups. In one small nesting box in this country 63 wrens were found gathered together.

We looked at different representations of these facts, so we unfolded the wings of a life-size model of an albatross. We took 63 wrens out of a nesting box and counted them. 

​It was a fabulous morning and the artefacts made it very memorable. The children were full of information and were bursting to tell the other adults around school. We hope they told you at home too! 

We visited the school pond today and the children were so excited with what we saw! We discovered lots of frogspawn. The frogs weren't around but we intend to keep looking and see if they return. We are excited to see how the frogspawn changes so will keep visiting the pond area and keep you updated!

This week in dinosaur club we have looked at different ways to mould clay in order to sculpt our own dinosaurs. We came up with a bank of words to help us - sculpt, mould, squeeze, roll, twist, squish, pinch, cut. 

The dinosaurs are not completed yet, we will be painting them next week. However here is a preview of a few of them. 

The response to Mrs Marshalls after school club was amazing. We will run the club for 6 weeks then re-run with different children.

This week the children created their own dinosaur skeleton pictures. The children were so creative. Watching the high levels of concentration as they decided on their design was so fascinating.  It will be sculpture next week and we are looking forward to it already.

World Book Day is one of our favourite times of the whole year. The children and staff dressed up to celebrate our love of books. During the day we had lots of special activities. Thank you to all the parents for reading to us in morning workshop. 

We then had a parade in the hall with KS1, that was amazing - seeing all the varying costumes and vibrant colours in the hall. Definitely a change from our 'blue'. In the afternoon we visited KS2 and shared favourite stories with them. We even got to walk upstairs, that was a special treat! What an amazing day!

We had a fantastic day at the wetlands. It was rather cold but we wrapped up and got on with our day. The muddy paths made it all the more exciting! 
In the morning we discovered lots of facts about 'brilliant birds' and watched the birds through binoculars in the bird hide. We had to be very quiet so that we didn't scare them! 
In the afternoon we looked for minibeasts, we had to be very gentle.

The children were so well behaved and represented our school impeccably.
