Happy Easter!

As we approach the Easter holidays we would just like to say how proud we are of you all. We have heard from lots of parents this week and it sounds like you’re all working really hard in these very different times. Although we miss you very much, it’s nice to hear that you’re all staying at home keeping everyone safe. As this would have been our final day of term there will be no home learning for the next two weeks. Instead, we will be giving you lots of ideas what can keep you busy around the house through the Easter holidays. It looks like there will be some sunshine next week so get out in your garden to enjoy some fresh air and exercise. Thank you for sending us all of your wonderful pictures, we have loved hearing about what you’re getting up to. Do keep them coming! Remember to keep yourselves and your family safe. From Miss Levitt and Mr Cavanagh x This week we had great fun using the skills we have been learning in art to paint our very own volcanoes. We used textured paint, thickened paint, block colours and colour mixing to make our volcanoes as realistic as possible. We let these dry and then special ingredients (bicarbonate of soda, fairy liquid, vinegar and red food colouring) were added to our creations to make them erupt! It was so scary when we could see the magma rising into the main vent and all the lava spilling down from the crater! Some of us even had to run away!!
On Wednesday, we had a fantastic day at York's Chocolate Story. We ventured further into the history of chocolate and learned so much about the marvellous Mayan creation. We even had a few tasters on our way round! Everyone saw each step of the journey, from cacao bean to shop shelves and all children became professional chocolatiers for the day, making their very own chocolate lollipop. All of this before we had a thorough study of the gift shop! We all had a fantastic time at our family fun session making papier mache volcanoes.
Everyone got stuck in making their wonderful creations even if we did get a little messy... As soon as our sculptures are dry, we will paint them and make them erupt - we can't wait! Keep a look out for a future blog post showing our brilliant eruptions! The time had arrived. Work perfected, lines learned, rehearsals completed. Nerves were high on Wednesday, when Year 3 performed their eagerly anticipated assembly. First, they impressed the whole school with the tremendous display of their recent hard work, before astounding the masses of friends and family members who filled the hall. All children played an important role in presenting work from art, science, numeracy, literacy, history, geography, PE and music. From Mayans, to Bob Marley and the Wailers on the glockenspiels, it had it all! Thank you to all those who came to see the performances, we hope you enjoyed it!
In music this half term, we have been practising our new song: Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. We have worked hard to find the pulse and rhythm in the song. We have also practised singing ready for our performance in our class assembly next week.
This week, we began practising using the glockenspiels. We cannot wait to perform for school and our parents! This week, we have continued experimenting with different painting techniques in art. We mixed our primary colours with PVA glue to investigate using thickened paint, before mixing the same colours with sand to produce textured paint. We had great fun seeing the different effects we could make with these paints.
We have also been investigating in science this week as Smyths Toy Store write to us asking for our help! They asked us to experiment with different magnets and conclude which is the strongest type of magnet for a new toy they are designing. We thought carefully about which variables we would have to change and which ones we would need to keep the same to ensure our investigation was fair. The number of paperclips each magnet attracted was carefully counted and recorded in a tally chart. Finally, we presented our findings in a bar chart and concluded which magnet was strongest. This half term, Barnsley Football Club will be coming in to school to work with Key Stage 2 children. 3SH will have an active numeracy lesson every Tuesday afternoon and 3WC will have an active Literacy lesson. 3WC have been busy designing their own games, writing rules and creating advertisements in Literacy. Meanwhile, 3SH have used different shapes to design badges for a club they are designing.
This week, in year 3, we have been investigating the different colours that we can make by mixing the three primary colours; red, yellow and blue. We will be developing this knowledge and experimenting with paints over the next few weeks to design and make our very own Mayan murals! We had great fun! |
Year 3 BlogIn Year 3, we have Miss Williams in 3DW, Miss Horne and Mrs Whittaker in 3HW. We have wonderful support staff who help us with our learning every day; they are Miss Thomas, Miss Lockwood, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lloyd. |
