On Tuesday, all of Year 3 walked down to Wombwell library. The library put on Stone Age activities for all children, with a vast range of relevant books to support them. All children were really keen to join the library, especially when they saw some of the amazing texts on offer. It was great to see all children enjoying different books and developing their love of reading! Keep reading Year 3!

This week, in Guided Reading, children have been looking at different poems and how they can be performed. They all worked in groups to learn 'There's a Monster in the Garden', a performance poem written by David Harmer. Each group then had great fun performing their poem to the rest of the class using actions and lots of intonation and expression in their voice.
This week Year 3 had a visit from the Yorkshire Cricket Board, who put on an exciting cricket-themed problem-solving activity. Children had to solve different mathematical problems to travel around the country to famous cricket grounds. All children worked really hard in their teams, and they were all very interested to see how maths can be applied to everyday problems and subjects, even P.E!
This week, Year 3 visited the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford to develop their knowledge of light, dark and forces, which they have been learning about in Science lessons. Children took part in a live science 'Light It Up' show and had chance to explore and experiment in the 'Wonderlab'. We also all had an amazing time learning all about space, television and animation, before we had opportunity to play on some retro games consoles! All children behaved and participated excellently and represented High View superbly well. This week, we have been learning all about bullying. The theme for this year's anti-bullying week was 'Change Starts With Us' so we have been considering what changes we can make to make sure everybody feels as happy and as safe as possible inside and outside of school. We all made a pledge and decorated them in ways to show how we are all different. All of our work was displayed in the hall alongside other year groups' in our Anti-Bullying Showcase which was open for all children and parents to look at. They all looked great! In year 3, we have been looking at why the poppy is so important to us.
We know that the poppy is a symbol used to pay our respects to the fallen soldiers. We have created our own poppies which we will use on Monday in our Remembrance assembly. We took great care with our cutting skills to make sure our poppies looked super neat! Great job Year 3! We had a lot of fun at our first family fun session of the year this week!
We had a go at creating our own cave paintings inspired by those we have seen from the Stone Age. Thank you to all who attended and for getting stuck in - even if we did get a little messy! Have a look at some of our fantastic Stone Age inspired artwork! On our journey back 2.5 million years to the Stone Age, we became hunter-gatherers, collecting fresh fruits and berries and hunting wild animals that we came across. After gathering in all of our fresh ingredients, we decided to test out our Stone Age culinary skills, by following a recipe to cook Stone Age stewed fruit! Apples, pears and blackberries were all chopped, mixed with honey, and cooked into a tasty fruit stew. All children then got the chance to taste their fruity creation to boost their energy levels back up after a long day hunting and cooking! As the photos suggest, it was a massive hit (with most)! This week, Year 3 have continued their exploration of light and dark. Children have investigated opaque, transparent and translucent objects; looked at how shadows are formed; and how they can change. Some even had time to put on their very own shadow puppet show!
This week, we learnt what it meant to be hunter-gatherers.
In the Mesolithic period of the Stone Age, people often moved around to fine their food - they never settled. Because of this, they had to become very skilled at hunting animals as well as knowing what fruits and nuts they could gather. We had a go at being hunter-gatherers using our very own spears (javelins)! |
