In science, we have been investigating reflective surfaces.
We have learnt what makes a good reflective surface and how mirrors work. We used a mirror to look at the reflection of the wiggly line on the floor whilst trying to walk along it from one end to the other. This was really tricky!

This week we have been focusing on the text 'Where the Poppies Now Grow' to support our learning about Remembrance Day. We read the text together and focused on reading aloud with intonation, volume, tone and expression. We then used the text to create some wonderful artwork including using our sketching and line making skills to draw poppies and then our brush control skills to use watercolour paints to add colour. We also made 3D poppies using card. Have a look at our learning below... Lest We Forget. Our science focus for this half term is 'Light and Dark' . We have been learning about light sources and shadows. We have also learned new vocabulary such as 'opaque' and 'translucent'.
This week we have been investigating the size and shape of shadows by using unifix cubes and torches. We made the classroom really dark by closing all of the blinds and turning off the lights and used our torches to make shadows. We investigated how to increase the size of our shadow by making a prediction and tested our hypothesis using the equipment provided. Look at the photographs of our experiment :) In the Stone Age, there were no writing as such. People recorded the world around by carving or painting on stones and cave walls.
We studied different images of prehistoric cave art and looked at what we could see. We saw animals, people and weapons. Then we had a go at recreating some of our own cave art using pencil, crayon and chalk pastels. This week in PE we have been learning ball control skills.
We played a game where we had to protect our ball from being taken or we would lose a point. If we manages to dribble the ball to the net and score, we got a point for scoring. This was a skills-based session focusing on running with the ball and changing direction. We had LOTS of fun! Stig of the Dump is our class read for this term as it links to our topic 'The Stone Age'.
We have only read the first chapter so far and we are HOOKED! We have explored the front cover, made predictions and discussed other texts by the author Clive King. Whilst reading the first chapter we have noticed there is a lot of new vocabulary we need to learn such as: copse, flint, paddock, law and glinting. This book is really expanding our vocabulary knowledge! Chapter 2 is called 'Digging with Stig' What do you think could happen next? Another week has passed and we are getting to know each other even better than ever!
In PSHE, we have made 'All About Me' posters. It has been lovely to share photographs, facts and information and learn more about each other. We have displayed these outside our Y3 classrooms for everyone to see and to celebrate how amazing we all are. Look at our wonderful work! Well, what a wonderful start back we have had in Y3! It has been amazing to see everyone again and be able to get back in the classroom learning. The children have settled in beautifully and have adapted to our new 'normal' without any hesitation. As part of our first week back activities we have looked at the text 'The Worrysaurus'. This is a beautiful story about a little dinosaur who learns to set the worry butterflies free and enjoy his day. We looked at using adjectives to describe the worrysaurus and thought of alternative words (synonyms) for the word 'worried'. We then used our ideas to create our own 'worry animal' description.
What a fabulous week we have had launching the new SeeSaw app across school! After a few early problems with getting logged on (children and teachers!), it has been a week of more ups than downs! Children have been working hard to complete all the work set for them every day and submitting some fantastic work to their teachers for feedback! We have explored the world of tigers through our 'Book of the Week' The Tiger Who Came to Tea, we have learned loads about fractions, we've been singing through Charanga and we have even seen some homemade theaters along with so much more!
Keep it up year 3, I look forward to week 2 on SeeSaw! :) |
Year 3 BlogIn Year 3, we have Miss Williams in 3DW, Miss Horne and Mrs Whittaker in 3HW. We have wonderful support staff who help us with our learning every day; they are Miss Thomas, Miss Lockwood, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lloyd. |
