Today we have been celebrating World Book Day! We were invited to come dressed as our favourite character, a word or ready for a bedtime story in our PJs. We had lots of fun throughout the day including being part of the KS2 parade in the hall looking at each other's outfits, discussing and researching our favourite authors and designing bookmarks based around our chosen author. We also did some paired reading with some of the younger children (FS2). To make this more exciting, each pair chose a picture book from the library and wrapped it in brown paper. They then wrote clues on a tag tied on with string to see if the children from FS2 could guess which picture book we had chosen for them to read. They really enjoyed guessing and unwrapping the book to find out which one it was! As Miss Myers had come ready for a bedtime story in her PJs, her class got cosy and enjoyed a bedtime story (Peace at Last by Jill Murphy) whilst sipping hot chocolate and marshmallows. We all had a great day for World Book Day. See some pictures of us below.

This week we have been learning about switches and their purpose and how they work within an electrical circuit.
We investigated different objects and materials to find out whether they allowed an electrical current to flow through them. We found out that we could sort the items out into conductors or insulators. We noticed how materials that are conductors were used within a switch, and create our own working switch using a conductor - a steel paper clip! As part of our RE culture week, we had a special visitor in Year 4. Mr Singh came in to talk to us about his faith 'Sikhism'. He was very interesting and we learnt lots about Sikhism. He spoke a lot about how we are all special and equal and played us some music. He taught us about the 5 Ks which are physical symbols worn by Sikhs who have been initiated into the Khalsa. The five Ks are: Kesh (uncut hair) Kara (a steel bracelet) Kanga (a wooden comb) Kaccha - also spelt, Kachh, Kachera (cotton underwear) Kirpan (steel sword) Here are some photos of Mr Singh's visit
Today in our topic lesson, the children were posed with several enquiry questions about the Rosetta Stone. Our main question was ‘How did the Rosetta Stone have an influence modern life?’ Working in groups, the children used iPads to search for information about the Rosetta Stone based around these four questions: What is the Rosetta Stone? When and where was it found? What is carved onto the stone? Why was the finding of the stone so important? The children will present their independent learning to the class next topic lesson! Come back soon to see what we have learnt! In our topic and literacy lessons, we have been researching the process of mummification in Ancient Egypt. We are using the information to write a non-chronological report. Our grammar focus is using a range of conjunctions to extend sentences.
Our new science topic in Y4 is electricity. To start off our topic we carried out PAT testing around school, checking various appliances and how they were powered.
Last week the children were given a selection of equipment. We tested our prior knowledge of what the different components were, and learned the names of any we were not sure of. In groups the children were given the task of using the bulb, bulb holders, wires, batteries, battery holders and crocodile clips to make the bulb light. The children used great problem solving and communication skills to make their bulb light up. We now what a circuit is and how to make a simple series circuit! We have been really lucky as we have had a delivery of brand new books to enjoy in class. We all voted for our favourite books/authors and chose our favourite five.
Here are 4MM’s favourite five... Can you spot any authors you know or any books you have read before? Keep an eye out as we will be posting book reviews to let you know what we think of our new books once we have had chance to read them! We have been having great fun so far this term, learning about the Ancient Egyptians; especially Tutankhamen!
