This is my story about the coronavirus, and how it made me feel and how it has changed not just my life but the whole worlds life. The first case was reported on 29th January two people fell ill in York a place I had visited many times, this made me feel really sad. Then in February the first person to catch this virus was confirmed but the person hadn’t been abroad which meant the virus was spreading. At my school we started taking more notice of the virus and we had to wash our hand for 20 seconds, before and after playtime and before and after dinner. It was all my mum and dad watched on the news as many people tried to carry on as normal while washing their hands and using hand sanitiser. Soon the government started doing daily updates of the spread of the virus, as more and more people became infected and more people were losing their lives. Lockdown On the 20th march our school closed. Shock and panic spread across our country this hadn’t happened since the war. On that Friday at 3:15 I said goodbye to my friends not really understanding what was going on and if I would see my friends at school before we all moved to high school, my mum and dad were upset as they didn’t want me to finish my time at high view this way. My mum cried loads. We made books for all our friends to sign just in case we didn’t go back before summer. We were also sent home with a giant pile of school work to keep us going at home as no one knew how long it would last. On the Monday my mum and dad were still working so my uncle Pete looked after us at home. On the Monday night Mr Boris Johnson addressed the nation, my dad was at work but me my mum and Jacob my brother watched the tv, my mum’s eye glued to what Boris was saying, “that’s is guys were in lockdown” I really didn’t understand so my mum explained, she said that the virus was spreading and to keep us all safe the government has told us to stay at home, “no work for mum” she said. All the shops had to close apart from supermarkets and shops where we could buy food and medicine. We couldn’t go see our friends or family. Me and Jacob could only leave the house to take Luna our dog for a walk or go on our bikes but we could only do this near where we lived and only for an hour a day. I was so excited that my mum would be at home with us as I was scared that she would get the virus, it didn’t really bother me at first that we had to stay at home I never really liked going food shopping anyway. On the Thursday of the same week my dads work place also shut down so now we were all together hiding from the virus but safe at home. My mum explained to us that now that they were at home, we would have to watch the pennies as she says so we wouldn’t be able to have as many treats as normal which was fine with me but my brother grumbled a little bit. It was strange at first us all been together normally we have a busy life my mum and dad work different shifts so they are always at home to look after me and Jacob, we had breakfast together dinner together and tea together all as a family, which was really nice. They had more time to sit and play with us. We would do homework in the morning then after we would be able to play while mum cleaned up then we would make dens and watch movies after our daily walk with Luna. After a few weeks though I really started missing my friends, I video call by best friend Lara everyday but its not the same as seeing her in person. I began to miss my nannie Wendy as she was on the vulnerable list so my mum and dad did her shopping and had to drop it off at the door so that they didn’t pass on any bugs, I couldn’t go see my nannie elaine or grandi jeff either. We did video call them all, good job they can use technology. On the 7th April it was Jacobs birthday but we couldn’t go out and celebrate as we would normally have done so we had to make his birthday as special as we could, nannie elaine came to see him but could only talk to him through the window I felt quite sad for him. When we did his birthday cake my mum and dad video called some of our family so we could all still sing happy birthday and see him blow out the candles. With all the shops been closed we had to make the best of everything we had in the house even though me and Jacob were still growing and growing out of our clothes, my mum had to make us shorts from our trousers that didn’t fit our legs but were still ok around our waist, she said this is what nannie Wendy used to do when she was little “couldn’t just go and buy clothes willy nilly back in 90s, mace”. On Thursday’s at 8oclock we stand as a family and clap for the wonderful work our NHS is doing and all the keyworks. We have a rainbow in our window to show our support. After the lockdown was extended by another 3 weeks, I started to feel bored! I missed my friends I missed my family I even missed school and all the teachers. I missed their smiley faces and Mrs Darrington’s loud jolly voice saying “good morning children” I missed my freedom. I was getting fed up of hiding from the horrible virus. On the 10th may we had another announcement from Boris, he was finally lifting some of the lockdown, as the virus was slowing down. But only small changes. All I know is I’m really looking forward to June as there is a chance I can go back to school and see my friends before we all go to high school. Soon I might be able to give my nannie Wendy nannie Elaine and grandi jeff the biggest hug ever. I was born the 4th of July which in America is independence day, on the same day is when lockdown may finally be over in my country, I hope this will be England’s Independence Day from this horrible virus and we will no longer be hidden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMyoK4oAVSc&feature=youtu.be
