Friday 24th April
You wouldn’t believe the day I had today! I was sitting down at the oak dining table, eating dinner with Mother. All of a sudden there was a loud but eager knock at the front door. Mum and I leapt up to answer it and as we were doing so wondering who it could be. “ Well it cant be the milkman the boy from the grocer or Dad so open the door and see who it is!” Exclaimed Mum. I tentatively opened the door and standing in the door way was a huge golden, striped … tiger!
I jumped back, startled by our guest. It gave a warm smile and by that , I knew it wasn’t going to hurt us. Next it spoke in a voice a stately home owner might have. “Please forgive me if I scared you but I am feeling particularly peckish and I was wondering if I could have tea with you.” The tiger looked at us with a look of longing and pleading in his eyes. Then mother stated “ Of course! Come in, come in, you must be absolutely starving!”
The tiger sat down on the chair nearest the cupboards. He had a neat handkerchief wrapped around his tail that he grabbed and placed on his lap. He asked us, “May I Please have one of those sandwiches, they look delicious!” and we did. But instead of taking one, he ate every one that was on the plate! Next he asked us, “ooh those buns look very tasty! may I have one of them?”
“One of them?” I asked suspiciously.
“Yes please.” He stated , not knowing what I had meant. So we passed him the buns and yet again … He ate the whole plate! Next Mum asked,” Would you like a drink?” And the tiger, without asking, grabbed the teapot and the milk jug and drank them both in one gulp! But he still didn't seem satisfied.
Next he rose from his chair and moved to the cupboards and started rummaging around in them. What would he eat next? The bread or potatoes maybe? But instead, he pulled out all the packets and tins and devoured them three at a time! I brushed my cheek with his soft tail, as if to calm him down. But that didn't stop him from going for …… DADDY'S BEER! Now we were in trouble. If that tiger drank all the beer, Dad would be fuming! Then I wondered where all the beer had gone because guess who drank it. Surprise surprise, it was the tiger. Finally he shouted, “ Thank you for the wonderful meal! And slammed the door behind him.
Me and Mum didn't know how we were going to get by without all of their supplies. All of a sudden there was another knock at the door. “It better not be that greedy tiger again!” Growled mum. It was dad! As soon as we walked in the door we explained to him absolutely everything that happened, from the tiger coming to the tiger going talking about every little detail. “ well it is a lot to take in but why don't we eat at the local cafe for the night?” Exclaimed Dad happily. I punched the air ecstatically. The cafe served my favourite dinner in the whole entire world! It was; sausages chips and … ICE CREAM!
The next morning, Me and Mum walked to the shop to buy supplies. Remembering the havoc with the tiger, I bought an extra large tin of tiger food for If he ever came again.
But he never did.
