As part of our Science curriculum, the children have been thinking about their senses and these are used. We started with a great activity of different items on the tables - raisins (to taste), vinegar, which was disguised so they had no idea (to smell), a Kaleidoscope (to see), a feely bag (to touch) and a talking box (to hear). They had time on each table within their groups to discuss what was on their tables and see what it was. It's safe to say it created a lot of discussion and was great to hear their ideas and thoughts.
The faces of the children smelling the vinegar and tasting the raisins were interesting and they were puzzled with the voice of the talking box!
We then discussed the different things they had seen, done and discussed and made notes of the important words within the discussions. SEE, HEAR, TASTE, TOUCH, SMELL were the main words that came from the discussions which quickly allowed the links to be made as to why their senses were so important to them and which body part they are associated with.
