Today we walked to Wombwell Cemetery to take part in a minutes silence for Remembrance Day. We walked to the cemetery with Year 5. We tried to find a partner who we didn't know very well which meant most of us made a new friend on the journey because we had lots of time to chat and get to know each other.
Earlier in the week we had made poppy wreaths at school which we wrote messages on. We took them with us to place at the war memorial to show our respect. We all then participated in the one minute silence and listened carefully to the readings and the music afterwards.
We knew all about the sacrifice the soldiers made and are still making for us because we have been finding out about why we have Remembrance Day at school. We all agree that it is a very special time and we should never forget what these people have done and are still doing for our country and the people in it.
It was exciting to see the British Legion Members and a few soldiers in their uniform and to find out about their medals which they had on their jackets. Everyone was very friendly and although it can be sad to remember those who have died or been injured it was also very interesting to find out more about their work.
