Today we had our first computing lesson within Year 2. We are lucky enough to have class sets of both laptops and IPADS. The children were all eager to have IPADS but today was the turn of the laptops.
Children need the basic skills of being able to turn on a computer, log in, open a word document, type on the document, save the document, retrieve the document and of course shut the computer down. Many of the children told us they hadn't used laptops before or log on to one so the lesson proved invaluable to them.
It took time but by the end of the lesson, all of them had logged on, opened a document, typed a sentence and then saved the document. It was lovely to see them all being so studious and concentrating hard trying to type.
We plan to send them home with a little ICT pack to allow them to practise at home if you have computers and laptops. Them practising logging on, opening and saving a document would be great if possible.
Computing is an important part of the curriculum and we are sure by the end of the Year they will be computer wizards :-).
