Today we went on a trip to Cleethorpes. Everyone was excited when we arrived at school early to get on the coach. The journey was loud but not too long.
Part of our science work has been to find out about animals and their habitats, so we spent time on the beach looking for animals that would live there. Sadly there were very few animals about but we did find a very tiny crab, lots of seaweed and many different shells.
While we were looking we discussed the kind of habitat it was and compared it to the one we had seen at Ledston Woods. We decided that we probably wouldn't find the same animals here. This helped the children to understand the different habitats and micro-habitats. We also found out what is important to help animals and plants survive in their specific habitat.
While we were on the beach we used our creativity and imagination to build sand sculptures!
We worked together in small groups to produce some very interesting results. It was hard work but lots of fun!
We also took a walk around the town, comparing the buildings to the ones we would see in Wombwell. On our walk we saw shops, flats, a train station and cafes. We discussed the similarities and differences and discovered that there are many similar things but that life must be very different at the seaside.
