We had such a wonderful Christmas concert this week with our lovely key stage 1 children. They all worked so hard to remember their acting parts and narrating parts and we couldn't feel any prouder. Thank you for supporting us with our concert. Here are a few pictures and a couple of video clips for you to remember the day. This week during culture week we have been learning about the beliefs of Christians based around their beliefs of the creation of the world. To do this we made Christingles and looked carefully at the significance of each element. We discussed reasons why Christians may believe God's creations are important and why we need to take care of them. This week we have been practising so hard to learn our number bonds to ten and to be able to recall them at speed. We have discussed the importance of knowing these to help us with all elements of our maths work. Please help the children at home, test them, can they remember all 11 pairs? This week we have been designing pockets in preparation for our class advent calendar. We have been looking at the most suitable way to attach the pieces of felt together. We investigated using lots of different types of fixtures and decided that stitching was the most robust method for us to use. Today Year 2 have enjoyed a wonderful trip visiting important parts of our local community in Wombwell. As part of our RE we have been learning about significant people of faith and how faith can be seen within our community. When visiting the Methodist church we learned about the role of the minister and how important they are not only in leading services but also in keeping a strong church community running. We also enjoyed Hearing Mr Coolin play the organ and learned how the pitch of the note changed depending on the length of the pipe. Many of the children were surprised to see how much noise some wind could produce! We also visited the community hub in Wombwell cemetery and learned about lots of the fantastic work the Friends of Wombwell do for the people of Wombwell. Finally, we visited Saint Mary's church where we talked about some of the ways Christians may worship god including discussing different kinds of services the children might have taken part in themselves. It's safe to say we had a wonderful (if a little cold and soggy!) day and have learned lots about christianity within our local community. We look forward to learning about other faiths later on in the year! Today we are stamping out bullying for anti-bullying week. We have celebrated anti bullying week today by wearing odd socks. This year's theme is "Change starts with us!" so we have considered how our behaviour effects other people and how we can change our behaviour to ensure that we are all working in a happy, healthy school community. Come to the anti-bullying school showcase to see a sample of the work we have completed around anti-bullying this week on Friday 22nd November.
Today Year 2 and 5 attended Wombwell cemetery to take part in a Remembrance service. The children presented poppy wreaths made from the beautiful poppies we made during our workshop. We also spent some time locating headstones of soldiers from Wombwell who died during the 1st or 2nd World War. The children were very surprised by just how young some of those brave soldiers were who lost their lives fighting for our country. We will remember them. Thank you so much to all our wonderful parents, family and friends who attended the workshop. The children produced some wonderful poppies, ready for our forthcoming remembrance service. Welcome back to a new term! We are looking forward to all the excitement that lies head this term and we are sure that the children nor you will be disappointed.
