Well the weather wasn't the best but off we all headed on our trip to the local area. First stop was Summer Lane Methodist church to drop off our bags before one class headed to the cemetery and the other stayed in church. We all learnt so much about the cemetery and the church. Did you know there are famous people in our cemetery? Do you know when the cemetery opened? I am sure the children could tell you. It wasn't long before we had lunch and headed to our next stop - St Mary's. Wow what a difference this church was, from the size and the amount of stain glass windows to the difference in organs. I bet you didn't know that the organ in the Methodist Church has between 400 to 500 pipes. We all had a turn at playing some of the pipes and enjoyed singing a song using the organ. What a fantastic day we have had despite the weather. We are so proud of the children and how well behaved they all were.

This week has been Anti-Bullying week - the theme this year is RESPECT. We have talked about how important this is and what it means to us all. We are all friends together in Year 2 and have so much respect for everyone. The children have designed friendship tiles for their friends after discussions with each other. They will then make these out of clay. We can't wait. We all made poppies to make a large loveheart to show the care, love and respect we all have. This looks fabulous and will sit pride of place on our new topic board. Finally we all made a friendship bracelet that links together to make a huge Year 2 friendship chain. Take a look at some of our pictures. We can't wait for our work to be on show in the hall this afternoon for all the parents. Oh my...we just couldn't believe our eyes this morning when we arrived to our classrooms being the subject of a "crime scene". The children were surprised, shocked, excited and flabbergasted at what awaited them on arriving. The suspense was built even higher because we said parents weren't allowed! After all we wouldn't want our parents to become the "SUSPECTS". The SUSPECT left various clues around the classroom for the children to go around and solve clues. They loved becoming "detectives". The detectives spent time investigating and solving the various clues! We then came together to discuss the clues, evidence and suspects. Who was our "RULE BREAKER"?
THE BIG BAD WOLF! What a fantastic morning everyone had and what a great hook into writing! :-) Year 2 and 5 walked down to Wombwell Cemetery today to take part in a Remembrance service, to allow us to remember all of the soldiers who died for our futures. The children were an absolute credit to us as a school and to you their parents.
What a fantastic morning the children had...
New half term = new topic and we were so excited to get started! The children identified a simple picture knowing immediately it was Guy Fawkes and even better they could remember all the facts they had learnt in year 1 about him. Very proud moment. Using instructions from last term, the children worked in groups and we all made mini Guy Fawkes - it was such fun and they all wondered just exactly why we were making them. |
