Frequent low-stakes testing is used continuously to provide memory-enhancing opportunities to recall and apply taught content. Children’s arithmetic, multiplication and number facts knowledge is tested daily to improve proficiency and to help pupils learn maths facts to automaticity. Summative assessments (NFER tests) are used termly in Year 3, 4 and 5 and previous SATs papers are used in Y2 and Y6 half termly to feed into ongoing teacher assessment.
