This half term our topic is 'Inspirational People; Aspirational us'. We are starting by looking at the life of Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution. In Science, we have looked at the evolution of man. We had to order them in the order we thought it happened and what we thought they were called. We used our vocabulary knowledge to help us. Such as Primates - we put that with the one that looked most like an ape and Erectus we put with a figure that was standing.
It was really interesting. We look forward to learning more about Charles Darwin and his work. We have asked questions we would like to find out such as: What inspired you? What were you looking for on your voyage? How long did it take you to come up with the theory? How did the theory of evolution change your life? Through this topic we will be studying: ICT - coding (showing part the voyage electronically) Geography - biomes, climate, mapwork Science - Evolution Literacy - biographies, diary entries Numeracy - coordinates Art - sketching/sculpting Look out for future blog posts of all our amazing work yet to come.

As part of our topic Inspirational People; Aspirational Us, we have been looking at Charles Darwin and his voyage on the HMS Beagle. To understand exactly where he went and the climates and biomes he visited, we first needed to make sure we understood the significance of some geographical terms.
Longitude, Latitude, Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere, Equator, Tropic of Capricorn and Cancer and the Arctic and Antarctic Circle. We can now pinpoint on his journey - where in the world he was, as well as understanding the climates he will have travelled through and what the biomes he visited would have been like. As a test our teachers gave us a balloon (blowing them up and tying them was harder than expected) and we had to label the different parts of the globe. We had a good time and proved we knew and understood this vocabulary. Over the summer holidays, we had a battle of the bands. 6RD vs 6JB.
It was a close match - 6JB did almost pull it back but it was 6RD that came out victorious! There will be another battle until October half term. Let the battle commence. Our most valuable players were: Cameran, Ruby and Alex Ronnie, Mikey and Ramsay Fantastic effort from these 6 - well done! Using our knowledge of coordinates in the four quadrants, we designed a battleship grid. We had to read and plot coordinates to try to sink each others ships. It was very enjoyable and got rather competitive. Maths is fun! A big welcome back to High View for the final year for Year 6. We have had our final first day and are looking forward to the year ahead. It is filled with exciting topics, trips and visitors.
We hope you follow our blog to keep track of our exciting adventures as we complete our final journey at High View! |
