Today, we celebrated two superstar writers we have in Year 4.
Sebastian and Emerson were chosen for the 'Superstar Writer' award because of their fantastic report about 'Roman Roads'. Sebastian impressed Mrs Wall with his use of a range of conjunctions in his writing to join and extend sentences and Emerson impressed Miss Myers with his wide range of factual vocabulary and the use of a thesaurus to improve words in his writing. Both boys showed they had been working very hard and listening in lessons as both reports followed the structure using text features such as a title, subheadings and paragraphs. Well done, boys! Keep up the good work!

The Golden Rule this week was 'Be Kind and Helpful'
Well done to Lily and Harley who were our winners this week! Well done to all our children who are kind and helpful in Year 4! This week's Golden Rule was: Look after property.
Today ,in both year 4 classes, we had a bit of a sort out! We set the children with a challenge of reorganising our reading corners to make sure the books we had on our shelves were exciting, engaging and ones we wanted to read. We took every single book off the shelves and spread them across the classroom giving us chance to organise books into piles: books that were a bit tatty and needed some TLC, books that we didn't want to read and books that we LOVED and definitely should keep on our shelves. The children LOVED sorting through our books and it was lovely to see what books we actually had in our classrooms. Here are some pictures of us organising our books! In our literacy lessons, we have been editing and improving our introductions to our non-chronological reports all about the Romans.
We looked at answering 'who?' 'what?' 'where?' and 'when?' and ways we could hook the reader into wanting to read more. Here is an example of one of our introductions by Summer in 4MM. Leave a comment below to let us know what you think! This week we have been learning all about Roman roads in both literacy and topic lessons.
In literacy, we have been collecting facts and starting to write our non-chronological reports about Roman roads. Some of our subheadings we came up with were: Who built the roads? What tools did they use? How did they build the roads? Why were the roads straight? In our topic lessons, we have been making our very own Roman roads using different materials such as rice, lentils and beans to represent the different layers of the road. Here are a few examples of our work. What do you think? Our Golden Rule this week was 'Work Hard'
This week, our winners were Ellie-Mai and Jack! Well done to all the children in Year 4 that work hard! This week we have dipped our toes into learning a new skill.
Mr Fuller, from the music service, arrived in school to teach us all about playing the Ukulele! We got our hands on a ukulele have started to learn some basic chords. Next week we'll be able to take them home for the first time. Watch out parents! Here we come!!! Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the Y4 Welcome Meeting. We hope you found the information useful! Inside your information packs you will find resources to support your child at home and important dates coming up throughout the year.
This term, our topic is the 'Romans'. We are going back in time to learn all about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. In our history lessons, we will be looking at how the Roman Empire spread and using our map skills to locate the world's countries, focusing specifically on Europe, in geography.
We started our topic this week by discussing what we already know about the Romans and what we would like to find out. Some of the questions we would like to find out the answers to are: Where did the Romans come from? When did the Roman Empire exist? Why did they want to invade Britain? Who was Boudicca? Look out for our amazing topic work yet to come! |
