This week we have been learning about switches and their purpose and how they work within an electrical circuit.
We investigated different objects and materials to find out whether they allowed an electrical current to flow through them. We found out that we could sort the items out into conductors or insulators. We noticed how materials that are conductors were used within a switch, and create our own working switch using a conductor - a steel paper clip!

As part of our RE culture week, we had a special visitor in Year 4. Mr Singh came in to talk to us about his faith 'Sikhism'. He was very interesting and we learnt lots about Sikhism. He spoke a lot about how we are all special and equal and played us some music. He taught us about the 5 Ks which are physical symbols worn by Sikhs who have been initiated into the Khalsa. The five Ks are: Kesh (uncut hair) Kara (a steel bracelet) Kanga (a wooden comb) Kaccha - also spelt, Kachh, Kachera (cotton underwear) Kirpan (steel sword) Here are some photos of Mr Singh's visit
Today in our topic lesson, the children were posed with several enquiry questions about the Rosetta Stone. Our main question was ‘How did the Rosetta Stone have an influence modern life?’ Working in groups, the children used iPads to search for information about the Rosetta Stone based around these four questions: What is the Rosetta Stone? When and where was it found? What is carved onto the stone? Why was the finding of the stone so important? The children will present their independent learning to the class next topic lesson! Come back soon to see what we have learnt! |
