This week we had great fun using the skills we have been learning in art to paint our very own volcanoes. We used textured paint, thickened paint, block colours and colour mixing to make our volcanoes as realistic as possible. We let these dry and then special ingredients (bicarbonate of soda, fairy liquid, vinegar and red food colouring) were added to our creations to make them erupt! It was so scary when we could see the magma rising into the main vent and all the lava spilling down from the crater! Some of us even had to run away!!
On Wednesday, we had a fantastic day at York's Chocolate Story. We ventured further into the history of chocolate and learned so much about the marvellous Mayan creation. We even had a few tasters on our way round! Everyone saw each step of the journey, from cacao bean to shop shelves and all children became professional chocolatiers for the day, making their very own chocolate lollipop. All of this before we had a thorough study of the gift shop!
We all had a fantastic time at our family fun session making papier mache volcanoes.
Everyone got stuck in making their wonderful creations even if we did get a little messy...
As soon as our sculptures are dry, we will paint them and make them erupt - we can't wait!
Keep a look out for a future blog post showing our brilliant eruptions!
