This week we have celebrated National Sports Week by being more active and joining in events throughout the week as well as competing in our Sports Day on Wednesday afternoon. Children have been in their Big Cat teams which were named after successful Olympic countries (China, Jamaica, Kenya, USA and Germany). They have been earning points for their country teams all week. We have had so much fun! Here are a selection of photographs from Sports Week

This week has been something we have all been waiting for, welcoming all of the children back to school after learning at home for sooooo long! We have had a fantastic first week back settling back into routine and back into becoming one big class again. As part of our writing, reading and PSHE work we have been reading the story The Invisible String. We really enjoyed this story as it reminded us our loved ones are always connected to us even if we aren't together. We have worked on writing our own setting descriptions to describe the settings in the story using descriptive language such as adjectives, alliterations, similes and metaphors.
It is here, it is finally here. The last academic week before we break up for Christmas!
Although Christmas is not quite as we know it, we still have had plenty of Christmas themed learning and fun in class. We have written a non-chronological report about Advent, solved some Christmas themed maths puzzles as well as making our calendars, Christmas cards and decorating our Christmas trees for the Christmas tree competition. Oh and we also managed to fit in filming our parts for the school VIRTUAL nativity play too! Despite all of the changes we have had to make to ensure our festivities were safe, we have had a brilliant time in the run up to Christmas! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! We had some very exciting news in Year 3 this week.
A couple of weeks ago we entered Stephanie Peacock's Christmas card competition to design her official Christmas card. We had lots of amazing entries from all of the children in Year 3 but three children in particular really impressed the judges... Jessie in 3DW came 1st in our school Elise in 3MM came 2nd in our school Skye in 3DW came 3rd in our school They both received certificates from the MP. A huge well done to you all! Well done to the children who have been awarded their 50 reading cards this week! You are showing a true dedication to learning - amazing! You should be super proud!
.This week we have celebrated Anti-Bullying week. We kicked off the week wearing our odd socks... we had all sorts of colours and patterns brightening up the classroom! We also watched the virtual assembly by Andy and the Odd Socks from the Anti-Bullying Alliance. It was great! We have designed our own 'odd sock paper chain' that we have linked together all down the corridor so all of our classes are connected and united against bullying. In our PSHE lesson, we have focused on 'kindness' and how we can make the world a kinder place. First we read the book 'Kind' by Alison Green and Axel Scheffler. We discussed what kind means and how we can ensure we are kind to one and other.
We then designed our own 'Kind Hands' with five ways we can ensure kindness starts with us. Have a look at our lovely work below. To celebrate maths week, we had a go at some challenges from the maths website 'NRich'. We focused on addition and subtraction as this is our current unit in maths. The first challenge we had a go at was 'Sort It Out' where we had to work out the answers to the addition and subtraction questions and then organised them into piles. We were free to choose our own way of organising them as long as we could use our reasoning sentence stems to explain. The second challenge we had a go at solving was 'Dominoes'. We have to create a window square with each side adding up to the same value. This challenge was very frustrating but we gave it a good go and persevered. Some people even managed to solve the challenge! |
Year 3 BlogIn Year 3, we have Miss Williams in 3DW, Miss Horne and Mrs Whittaker in 3HW. We have wonderful support staff who help us with our learning every day; they are Miss Thomas, Miss Lockwood, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lloyd. |
