A massive thank you again for all the fabulous entries to our annual Christmas Tree Competition. I'm very glad that I was not involved in the judging; as always the standard was incredibly high! Below are photographs of our worthy winners. Huge congratulations to them! Y4 Y5 Y6
Hi All,
Today we received an email to school alerting us to some eSafety risks associated with some supposedly "child-friendly" websites (both of which we are aware of some of our children using). I have pasted it below for your information. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or need further advice on this. The Blue Whale Game A game where users who sign up have no get out otherwise the hosts ‘will come and get you’. The users are given tasks to complete over a period of 50 days including things such as waking up at absurd times, tattooing a blue whale onto their own skin, self-harming and other extreme challenges. The final challenge of this game is shockingly to commit suicide. At the moment this is happening in Russia and Romania and some children have already fallen from roofs to their deaths for the final challenge. I cannot believe something so evil exists, what a sad world we live in. The second of these is a gaming site that is being used by a number of primary age children called ROBLOX. This game looks just like a Lego game but there are two main concerns. Firstly, there is a messaging facility as part of the game where youngsters can be contacted by strangers. The app states that it is ‘the best place to imagine with friends’ but with over 30 million users, you have no way knowing who you are talking to. Secondly, despite claiming to be ‘Kidsafe’ it has been reported that a primary school have been able to set up an account where they were then able to access games for over 18’s. These games also included Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and Halo. We had a fantastic day for World Book day, all the children dressed up as a character from a book. During the morning KS1 had a parade in our hall, where all the children had the opportunity to see their friends and other classes in costumes. It was a lovely morning. The children clapped and cheered as others paraded the halls. The children then listened to a story and all interacted with actions and noises.
During the day we also had the opportunity to do some shared/paired reading with another year group. The children absolutely loved it and were so happy to be reading to older children and vice versa. During December, Y6 (with lots of help from the rest of High View too) have been doing a "reverse advent calendar". Instead of taking from a calendar, they have been giving! Many have brought in generous donations for the food bank. This will enable lots of less fortunate families to have an easier and happier Christmas.
Today, Y6 walked down to the food bank with our donations. The children loaded up their backpacks before we went. There was enough to fill the rucksacks of all the children and staff, plus Mrs Hunt's car boot! We were welcomed with open arms and filled over 15 crates with pasta, cans of food, tea, sugar etc. We really could not be more proud of our children and their families for the immense generosity. The children have learnt so much about helping others through this project. Enjoy the photos below from this morning! This week our wonderful Year 2s went to the Dorothy Hyman in Cudowrth for a Multi Skills Competition. When we were there they practised chest throws, javelin, speed bounce, high stepper, ladders and balancing. We had a fanastic afternoon and all the children were brilliantly behaved. There were over 200 children at the competition and one of our teams managed to finish second! Watch this space to see the winners...
