During December, Y6 (with lots of help from the rest of High View too) have been doing a "reverse advent calendar". Instead of taking from a calendar, they have been giving! Many have brought in generous donations for the food bank. This will enable lots of less fortunate families to have an easier and happier Christmas.
Today, Y6 walked down to the food bank with our donations. The children loaded up their backpacks before we went. There was enough to fill the rucksacks of all the children and staff, plus Mrs Hunt's car boot! We were welcomed with open arms and filled over 15 crates with pasta, cans of food, tea, sugar etc. We really could not be more proud of our children and their families for the immense generosity. The children have learnt so much about helping others through this project. Enjoy the photos below from this morning! Thank you to all children and staff who worked so tireless in preparation for the anti-bullying exhibition today. The hall was full of examples of the childrens' brilliant work.
Thank you also to parents who took the time to come and celebrate the children's achievements - it was wonderful to see you!
Last Friday children from Year 2 and Year 5 walked down to Wombwell cemetery to take part in a Remembrance Service. While they were there, they explored the cemetery and learned to tell the difference between a war memorial and a war grave. Everyone found it extremely interesting and although sometimes children were sad to see men had passed away so young, it also enabled them to begin to understand the sacrifice they made. Everyone who took part was credit to the school and showed outstanding behaviour throughout the visit. The year 5 children were fantastic role models for the year 2s and helped keep them safe and explained different things during the walk around the cemetery. It was also fantastic to see so many parents and other adults from around Wombwell who gave their time to take part in the service with our pupils. Children from each class made their own poppy wreath to lay as a sign of respect and to remember those who had passed away. Can you remember what the colours of the poppy stand for? |
